August RoundTable – Engaging Community Support for Affordable Housing
Date: Thursday, August 16th, 2018
Time: 11:30 am – 1:15 pm
Episcopal Retirement Services
1610 Marlowe Ave.
Cincinnati, OH 45224
This month we’ll be hosting individuals who will be discussing case studies related to developing community support for affordable housing. For some neighborhood residents, ‘affordable housing’ can bring to mind negative imagery, creating opposition to projects from individuals with a Not In My Back Yard perspective.
We’ll be talking with Mike Cappel, CDCA board member, College Hill CURC board President, and Parter at Keating Meuthing Klekamp, who will be discussing the very Marlowe Court development we’ll be visiting. He’ll be discussing approaches used over a 5 year period to build community support for this transformative project.
Also joining us will be Betty Waite, interim Executive Director of the Walnut Hills Redevelopment Foundation, who will adding to the discussion their experiences with the Scholar House, an inventive project that pairs affordable housing with an in-house CUB Early Learning Center for single parents who are attending post-secondary educational institutions.
We all know that neighborhood support is necessary for development to be community development, so this will be a great opportunity to ask site-and-neighborhood-based questions and take away some successful techniques.
